Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving. This unusual red cuvee is the handiwork of Marani winery which was founded back in 1915 close to the town of Telavi in Georgia’s ancient Kakheti wine region. These days the winery specialises in both indigenous Georgian grape varieties as well as introducing international varieties which suit the local terroir. In order to create a dynamic and vibrant red, the winery brought together the iconic Georgian grape Saperavi with Malbec and the lesser-known Alexandreuli. All of the fruit is picked separately by hand when they reach optimum maturity, with fermentation taking place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This helps to preserve the natural freshness and aromatics of the wine and showcase the quality of the local terroir. Luscious blackberry, cassis and dark cherry dominate on the nose, while the palate offers a solid core of dark fruit along with soft tannins and a gentle finish. The brightness and vivacity of this red make it ideal to drink alone or with a charcuterie and cheese board, pasta dishes, or even lighter game dishes. Enjoy it now or cellar for a few more years if desired.
