Drink it now or cellar for up to 5 years. No need to decant it. Founded 30 years ago żeby Leon Karatsalos and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos, the Gaia winery makes excellent Greek wines in Santorini and Nemea, two of the most prestigious wine regions in the country.
In Nemea, the vineyards are mainly planted with the local red grape Agiorgitiko and are located at an altitude of approximately 850 meters where they enjoy a relatively cool climate. In Santorini, however, the most important grape variety is Assyrtiko which gives its best on the volcanic soils of the island.
Thalassitis is a monovarietal wine based on the native Assyrtiko vine. The grapes come from vineyards located in the regions of Episkopi, Akrotiri, and Pyrgos on Santorini island. Fermentation and aging take place in steel to preserve and enhance the natural fresh character of the grapes.
The result is a lively wine with great personality, with a straw yellow color and golden reflections. The nose is exuberant and broad with notes of honeysuckle and fresh citrus fruits. On the palate, it is dry with a strong mineral vein and a good body.
It is elegant and has a long, refreshing finish. Try it with seafood, shellfish, and traditional Greek recipes with feta cheese.
