Drink it now or cellar for up to 5 years. No need to decant it. Gaia Wines is a successful Greek winery founded in 1994 that produces excellent wines on Santorini island and in the Nemea region. The two founders Leon Karatsalos and Yiannis Paraskevopoulos inaugurated their production with Thalassitis, a white wine from Santorini based on Assyrtiko, fermented and aged in steel.
After the success obtained with the first harvest, the company quickly grew in production and in 1999 it acquired an equipped cellar and a private vineyard in the Nemea region, home of the indigenous grape variety Agiorgitiko.
The company concentrates its production on native vines to best express the potential of some Greek terroirs. The Moschofilero grapes come from the Nemea vineyards, located on hills with calcareous and clayey soils, at around 700 m above sea level where the cool temperatures guarantee the complete expression of the aromaticity of this Greek vine.
The wine has a bright straw yellow color and a fragrant and lively aromatic profile with notes of stone fruit and rose petals and some spicy hints. On the palate, the wine is delicate and fresh with a tingling acidity and a pleasant finish that recalls delicate spicy aromas.
It is delicious as an aperitif, with prawns and with sweet and sour Asian recipes.
