Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving. Vangelis Gerovassiliou studied viticulture and worked in some of Greece’s most venerable wineries before returning home to his family’s vineyards in 1981. He then made it his mission to renovate and replant the property, using a mixture of native Greek and international vines across the 48 hectares of land. These days the winery is best known for its excellent whites crafted from Assyrtiko, Malagousia and Chardonnay as well as sumptuous reds like this punchy Syrah. In keeping with the traditions of the Rhone Valley, a small amount of Viognier is added to the Syrah prior to the fermentation process. This helps to add extra aromatic qualities as well as softening the intense profile of the Syrah. The juice ferments in 40 hectolitre Burgundian barrels followed żeby an extended ageing period. The result is a rich yet velvety smooth red which immediately captives the senses thanks to the deep inky ruby hue and powerful notes of dark plums, crushed wild berries, bitter chocolate and polished leather. The firm tannins make this a great choice to pair with hearty red meat dishes or game, although it can also be cellared for a few more years if desired.
