Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Luigi Baduana is a family-run winery founded in the 1990s by Luigi and his wife Fiorina in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba, in Piedmont.
Since 2009 the estate has been managed by another well-known family business in the area, G.D. Vajra. Luigi Baduana produces four wines, including 3 Barolos and a Langhe Bianco. Luigi Baduana's Barolo Serralunga is the most accessible of the three Barolos produced by the company.
The Nebbiolo grapes come from vineyards located in Serralunga at an average altitude of 340m. The vines, aged between 20 and 30 years, are planted on different types of soil. After careful harvesting and manual selection, fermentation takes place in vertical vats.
The finished wine ages mainly in Slavonian barrels of various sizes for 24 months. The wine has an intense aromatic profile with layered notes of black cherry, wild raspberries, cassis and plum, dried flowers and orange peel, spices, and herbs, followed by hints of licorice and cola, typical of Nebbiolo.
On the palate, it is soft and well-structured. It has firm, well-integrated tannins and a very balanced acidity. It has a delicious concentration of fruit that makes it lively and energetic. It has a medium-full body, and a long, persistent finish.
It is perfect with roast meats or dishes based on porcini mushrooms.
