Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for an hour before serving. Clos des Guettes opens with an expressive nose of red cherries, raspberries, iron-rich earth, violets and spice, with subtle umami hints of mushroom as it opens up.
Made with 100% Pinot Noir, it was sourced from a prestigious old-growth vineyard in Savigny-lès-Beaune, planted on gravelly, well-drained soils. Domaine A.F. Gros takes its name from Anne-Francoise, who inherited the land from her father in 1988.
It is a small-scale family winery, these days owned and operated żeby Anne’s children, Julie, Paul, and Marine. Like the three other Gros family wineries in Burgundy, it is mostly associated with the appellation of Vosne-Romanee, where the soils are perfectly suited for top-class Pinot Noir.
The younger generation, however, have expanded the estate outside of the family's traditional lands, and vinify their grapes in Beaune. In the mouth, this wine is medium-bodied and well-structured, with flavours of red hedgerow berries and sour cherry.
Fine tannins and crisp acidity dance around subtle notes of cassis and forest floor. This is a superb Premier Cru at a reasonable price, with plenty of room for ageing in the cellar. Consider pairing it with roasted poultry, braised meats, or aged cheeses.
