Cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. Yarra Yering was founded in southeast Australia’s Yarra Valley by Dr Bailey Carrodus, as one of the first commercial wineries in the valley. In 1973, the estate produced its first vintage and has been a mainstay of Australian wine ever since. In 2022, the winery received the James Halliday Winery of the Year and Wine of The Year, becoming the first producer to win two awards in one year. Yarra Yering’s flagship Chardonnay is bursting with luscious notes of lemon rind, juicy green apple, hazelnut, white flowers, and chalk. It was harvested from the estate’s original plots of Chardonnay, planted in 1969 – one plot contains an unknown variation of the grape, while the other grows Burgundy Clone 95. In the mouth, this Chardonnay has some weight. It is broad and powerful, balanced out by a fresh vein of acidity. Look for notes of crunchy orchard fruits, with hints of citrus, tropical fruit, and cleansing minerality. Some time spent ageing in the bottle will reveal even more character. Before being released to the public, it matured for 10 months in French oak barrels. We recommend pairing this wine with roast chicken, seafood, or pungent soft cheese.
