Cellar for up to 20 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. The Mukuzani Special Reserve has a wonderful nose, packed with aromas of sour cherry, blackcurrant, vanilla and cocoa. It is a bold, dry red wine, originating from the Alazani River plain, where the soils are composed of a calcareous clay. The Mukuzani appellation is considered to be one of the greatest in the country, placing this Special Reserve firmly in the upper echelon of Georgian red wines. Tbilvino was founded in 1962 and originally served as a simple wine cellar. It was 2014 before the winery began to cultivate and harvest its own vineyards, a change brought about aby the brothers Zurab and Giorgi Margvelashvili. These days, it is one of the largest wineries in the country, sourcing fruits from world-renowned appellations, and receiving plaudits from international wine competitions, such as Decanter London, Mondial, and the IWC. The Mukuzani Special Reserved is composed of the very best bunches of Saperavi grapes, collected and set aside each year aby the winemakers. It has a complex palate, loaded with tannins, dark jammy fruits, and subtly sweet spices. Look for hints of vanilla, tobacco smoke and blackberry in each sip. The fruits spent 15 months ageing in French oak barrels, imparting an excellent, woody backbone. It is serious, yet approachable, and has the potential to age in a cellar for a very long time. Consider pairing it with traditional Georgian stews, steaks, or spicy sausage.
