Cellar for up to 20 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. The Herzog family have ancient wine-making roots, reaching halfway across the world. The story began with Rabbi Menachem Herzog, a vintner who lived in the Trnava region of Slovakia in the early 19th century. Incredibly, after 200 years of wandering, the Herzog family have found themselves in the Ventura region of California, under the leadership of David Herzog. The Herzog family own a wide portfolio of brands, and within their Special Reserve line lies their most premium wines - the pinnacle of their careful craftsmanship. Special Reserve wines are created from the finest vineyards in California. In this case, it’s from Alexander Valley, a sheltered, foggy location, famous for the voluptuousness of its wines. This is a kosher wine, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is ripe and bold from the very beginning, with thick scents of dark berries, black cherry and liquorice. This medley continues onto the palate, where you can also detect notes of chocolate and vanilla, gained from 18 months of ageing in oak barrels. It showcases an impressive structure, with firm tannins and angular acidity, making it highly suitable for extended ageing in a cellar. Consider pairing this wine with roasted lamb, a tomato-rich pasta sauce, or a tender steak.
