Cellar for up to 15 years. Decant for an hour before serving. The Powerline Syrah is a vibrant, full-bodied red wine from the heart of Washington state. The nose is redolent of black cherry, plum and raspberry, with underlying notes of savoury herbs, orange blossom and seasoned wood. The Syrah was sourced from Charles Smith’s Powerline Estate in the Walla Walla Valley, where vines grow at 1200 feet above sea level, on well-drained rocky soils. Charles Smith is a mould-breaking winemaker, a Washington pioneer, and the brains behind the nation-spanning winery, House of Smith. He began his career managing a number of rock bands, including the Danish duo The Raveonettes, before expanding into wine around the turn of the millennium. His rock and roll attitude is still evident in the incredible range of wines that House of Smith produces, spread across six brands - each striking in its own way. This Syrah was inspired aby the Rhône Valley. It is a perfect balance of power and approachability, with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. On the palate, you can find bunches of dark fruit, black pepper, herbs and spice, with subtle hints of mineral-rich rock and salinity. It is a bold, timeless expression of Washington state, made for enjoyment. Try pairing it with spare ribs, barbecue flavours, or smoked eggplant.
