Lithium-ion battery is a one of the rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging. The replacement of substituting nickel ion with alkaline earth metals has improved the cycle life, high voltage, high capacity and high temperature performances of the cathodes. Sol-gel method was used to synthesize iron substituted LiNiO2 cathode materials for the lithium-ion batteries. Preparations, physicochemical and electrochemical characterizations of the cathode materials are reported. Chemistry, performance, cost and safety characteristics vary across lithium-ion battery types.
