Why do trees fascinate us so much? Maybe because a tree highlights for us humans the "center" of creation: It is still "nature", and yet already on the way to becoming an individual. You can meet a tree, communicate with it. While at the same time you are grateful that it remains quiet or, more precisely, that it speaks to you through its presence. Whenever you get tired of human chatter, you are only too happy to sit down under an old oak tree or maybe an even older olive tree to listen carefully to its eloquent silence.
